Local Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 cars have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a statement.
Police state they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.
The fluid had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered many other smeared vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police say preliminary tests indicate the liquid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no lead as to its source; investigators are presently not aware of any physical harm in association with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities stated they were working "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking representative stated the vandalism left him speechless and had to be solved quickly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on social media, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a gunman targeting people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
